NO THIS IS NOT A JOKE. No, seriously. It’s not. Daniel Strauss teaches us how to use the famous Karate Kid “Crane Stance” as a guillotine setup. Check it out.

Daniel Strauss, a very well-accomplished grappler from the UK is a Purple Belt under Roger Gracie. In this video, he teaches us how to use the ever-so-famous Karate Kid “Crane Stance” as a setup for the guillotine. If you don’t believe us, the video actually highlights his win using the very same technique at Grapplers Showdown, a tournament in the UK. He will also be competing at the ADCC in Nottingham this year, so let’s all wish him luck and hope that he uses the Crane Stance setup again. (But something tells me he won’t, but we’ll never know!)

Points to Remember:

  • Use the raised leg as bait.
  • Push your opponent’s head to the side and tuck your wrist right under his windpipe.
  • If he takes you down, roll over to get mount position and finish the choke from there.
  • This technique is bloody awesome.

Dan is sponsored by Scramble, and to complete the Karate Kid theme, they’ve got the Scramble “Be Water” Rashguard, inspired by Bruce Lee. Check it out. Clicking on the photo will direct you to the product page. (Opens in a new tab)
